Furniture that will Suit Your Home Theater

Picking furniture for your home theater system? When you've spent a lot on creating a home theater system that rivals the ones downtown, your next step should be picking the right furniture that suits the hardware. Here's a guide for making sure all your movie moments are shown in comfort and style.

Open or closed?
Open systems provide easy, unencumbered access to your video and audio systems but it does gather more dust in the long run. You can keep this area clean and spotless by dusting it at least once a week. If you don’t want too much backbreaking housework, simply purchase one of those closed units that will keep all components safe inside.

However, if you prefer out-of-the-way furniture for your home theater system, why not have built-in units installed? These disappear into your walls so all you see from your home theater chair is your TV. The only drawback is that you might sacrifice some of the sound quality if there's no other place for your speakers, so plan the installation well and have your speakers installed out of the way.

Strength and flexibility
Choose furniture that can carry the weight of your home theater system. If you have one of those systems that come in packs, you probably don’t have to worry about this but if you're the kind who likes to build and add components slowly, you might have a problem with storage later. CD racks, for example, not only take up space but they can be quite heavy. Still have your old CRT TV? That's overweight, too.

Your home theater system furniture should be able to adapt to the changes your system will undergo. And if you're the kind who likes to keep up with technology, it will definitely grow. Look for furniture that allows seamless additions and extensions and those that let you purchase pieces you can supplement later. Removable shelving and racks are also a good design idea.

Ventilation
Even the latest gadgets need space to cool down, so make sure the furniture you buy allows enough ventilation to keep the temperatures at a minimum.

Will it blend well?
Choose furniture that will not only make your home theater system look good but that will also blend with your other furnishings. Of course, all that furniture will look good at the store, but how will it look in your living room or that converted area in your basement. White racks, for example, look pristine and cool, but against the warm wood backdrop of your walls, they might look ridiculous.
