To maintain the illusion that you’re truly in a cinema and watching one of the summer’s blockbusters, home theater curtains that can keep the room in total darkness are a must.
Tips for Choosing Home Theater Curtains
Opening and closing of home theater curtains may be done manually or electronically. The latter however will cost you a bit more for installation and will add to your electricity bill. They could also be a hassle when they malfunction, and you won’t be able to manually pull them close lest you wish to risk more damage to the system. Automated home theater curtains, however, definitely make a better impression.
Colors matter a lot. Firstly, avoid choosing bright colors if you’re using a projection screen. Bright colors can cause havoc to how images are being protected. It’s better by far to choose a dark color for your home theater curtains because they can also prevent light from seeping through your home cinema. Secondly, choose a color, pattern, or print that will match the décor of your home theater. If your home theater’s black, chrome, and glass, dark tangerine curtains might look a bit out of place.
Length, width, and thickness of home theater curtains are very important. While you don’t want something that will graze the floor and cause others to accidentally loose their footing, you’ll want a few extra inches for the width of your home theater curtains for added blackout protection. And of course, the thicker the curtains are the better! It’s always safer to buy a slightly bigger size for your curtains or better yet, have them custom made for your home theater.
Think carefully about your choice of fabrics. Velvet curtains are great because they’re naturally thick, luxurious to touch, and beautiful to the eyes even though they usually come in solid colors. Cotton is cheaper and comes with a wider variety of designs, but you might need to use multiple layers to keep the room in total darkness.
Home theater curtains may just be for covering, but they can easily enhance or break the illusion of being inside a cinema. Good luck on choosing the best curtains for your home theater!
